Lute after Johann Christian Hoffmann, Leipzig ca. 1730

#7

A lute made by the famous German master. The deep body of this lute (originally inspired by the Bologna lutes) provides a rich, full, but somewhat darker tone. Its rather short string length compared to other baroque lutes means it can also be tuned to A440 Hz. This model can also be made as a swan neck version (#8). The version in the photos is custom made with a two step Jauck style head (see comment on Jauck head).

String length: 70.5 cm

Body size: 32.2 x 50 x 18 cm, 11 ribs
